Once again it's been quite some time since the blog has been updated. The reason, plainly, is that I had little to report on during this period. However what brought me delight was my being accepted to write in the student newspaper 'The insiter'. Even though the first article was no less disturbing than an offending church clock recording unacceptable sound levels, I'm content nevertheless that I have something more than useful to indulge in whenever I'm in the mood.
We are now well into the summer holidays, and the wear-and-tear associated with sleeping in and doing nothing has started to take its effect. Moreover, there's nothing to watch on TV (or 'shitbox' as I delightfully call it) and you often end up going through the same internet pages, even though there are billions of them (what a waste).
That said, it's been precisely my willingness to browse other pages that has sparked my intention to write this blog today. I wanted to take the point of view of the reader and browse through the millions of other blogs that are around. Although a good number of them are written in barbaric languages, and another good number contain nothing but bland advertisements, there are indeed a few good ones, and others which produce a few laughs. Usually mine are of the bragging type, and, though may contain a certain degree of satire, the rest leaves much to be desired (even to me). Maybe I'm taking this too far already...
University always seems to bring up some kind of surprises. The latest of them all is the fact that the results do not seem to be arriving by post anytime soon. I really wonder how on earth I'm going to prove my achievements dutifully written on my CV in an official way, other than from directly printing the results. The big news from our faculty - the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA) is the introduction of two new major areas of study we may (or not!) undertake during the next three years.
So, to cut the story short, we've got Marketing as well as Insurance and Finance as new areas. The snag is the tiny asterisk marked next to Insurance and Finance. We find out that "Students cannot take Insurance and Finance with Economics or Public Policy". This is, to say the least, gross and unfair. Not only is this ridiculous, but also contradictory, in the sense that students taking Banking and Finance, another possible major area, already contains an element of "Finance", but may nevertheless take Insurance and Finance - whereas those taking Economics, which would seem a natural complement, are hindered from doing so.
I think I've said enough for today. I will now revert to my hibernatory instincts until my instinct derives quench from blog-writing thirst once again.
Take care
Stephen.
